Enjoying a January Day

Living in Florida in the winter is lots of fun for me.  Most days are mild and so far we have had little rain.  The last two or three years it has been really cold only for about 1 or 2 weeks.  Last year in February it got down to 22 degrees in the morning.  We had a bucket of water outside and about an inch of it turned to ice.

That cold spell soon passed and we were back to the mild weather.  On the island a little convience store wanted to increase it's parking area.  Somehow they dupped the city council planning commision to approve and have now cut down many beautiful old oak trees.

The oak trees here are so beautiful and some are extremely old. They have moss growing on them and the moss can hang low on the tree.  Makes the trees look a little creepy.  I often think about Halloween and the scariness of their look.  Here in Florida the oak trees are somewhat protected so I was very surprised to see that they could be cut down so easily.

Not so with the pines which are everywhere.  Walking in the forest area behind our house is such a pleasure.  I see many varieties of birds, lizards, a deer once in a while and have seen 3 snakes.  The snakes are scary as one is the cottonmouth which is poisonous.  That is just part of living in a tropical place.

I am catching up on my art projects if only I would quit starting more.  I made a fabric picture of a mermaid last week and am now making some cloth doll bookmarks.

Mr. Kitty is finally coming around to liking me better.  He is a shy little fellow and loves the outdoors.  When he is in the house he will hide and sleep in the closet or under the computer desk.  He loves sitting with Leon in the recliner chair at night and sometimes will sleep on his side of the bed.  Snuggles sleeps on my side and if Mr. Kitty touches her she will growl.

Off to the library today and to finish up on one of my art projects.  I am getting ready to make an attempt to do a fabric portrait.  I have tried before without too much success but there is a new process which I am going to try out.
